Biography:

Alex is a vitreoretinal subspecialist with interests in education, training and clinical research. Following extensive training in medical and surgical retina in Melbourne and the US, Alex returned to practice in Sydney in 2000. He is involved in weekly teaching of ophthalmic registrars at Sydney Eye Hospital, and is a member of the RANZCO Court of Examiners for the RACE exams.

Alex is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Vitreoretinal Services at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquarie University; and a Clinical Senior Lecturer and member of the Retinal Therapeutics Research Unit at the University of Sydney. He is involved in numerous clinical trials for treatment of retinal diseases.

He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists, Oceania Retina Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Alex is on the executive of the Fight Retinal Blindness project, and the Medical Board of the Macular Degeneration Foundation.
